An introduction to Falcon

Falcon has been known for generations as a leader in the UK Bicycle market and we thought you may like to know a little more about our History.

The story begins back in the early 1880’s when 3 innovators set up a company named Hotchkiss, Mayo & Meek Ltd. In 1897, John Meek left the company, and the remaining members looked to create a more easily-recognisable brand. The company was re-named Coventry-Eagle, after the city in which they lived and manufactured bikes.

During the first half of the 20th Century, the company focused on adding petrol engines to bicycle frames as an early form of the modern day motorbike. In the 1930s Coventry Eagle launched a range of sporting bikes under the “Falcon” brand, and it was under this name that the company re-launched itself after the Second World War had ended. Ever since then, Falcon has been known for providing great quality bikes to both the UK and foreign markets and continues to design and innovate product in the Midlands today.

The Falcon range has been driven by some of the world’s best cyclists over the years, such as British racer Ernie Clements in the 1950’s and Belgium’s Eddy Merckx in the 70’s, providing a great pedigree for the brand. The Falcon brand continued to develop thanks to several different owners over the next 20 years, until finally being acquired by one of the UK’s largest bicycle companies, The Tandem Group, in 1995.

Today the brand stands as strong as ever with a strong presence across the market. We continue to innovate, expand our horizons and move the brand forward….. and we hope you will join us as we start our journey through the next 125years.
